World Environment Day 2021 Virtual Meet cum Quiz Competition

Each year The World Environment Day is celebrated globally on June 5, to bring awareness among the people on the need to preserve nature and the planet at large. It is a day to remind each one of the dire need to get involved in environment-friendly activities.

A fun-filled, virtual, World Environment Day was commemorated among the staff and trainees of Kerala on June 5, 2021. It was the first time the Kerala team came together and celebrated. The program was successfully conducted with the presence of Ms. Niveditha E (Regional Manager) Mr. Juby Thomas (State Coordinator), Mr. Digit Jose (State Finance), Mrs. Anila Samson (State MIS), Fr. Johnson Joseph (Director, PSSS, Centre in Charge, Punalur), Center in Charges, 15 staff members, and about 87 trainees. The program kick-started with the Quiz Competition, based on the environment, at 9.30 is which ended by 10:15 am.

As the celebration began at 11:00 am, Mr. Das MS (Trainer, Punalur) sang the prayer song. Mr. Digit welcomed the participants with a video presentation, coinciding with the occasion.

Fr. Joseph shared a thought-provoking message who emphasized saying, “This year marks the beginning of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.” He added, “The global host for the day to magnify the importance of ecosystem restoration this year in Pakistan. This nation kick-started the festivities last Wednesday with a cycling event to raise awareness on ecosystem restoration. He quoted some messages from the Holy books connected to the environment.”

Mr. Juby also shared a valuable message with the trainees. While speaking on the occasion, he exhorted everyone to ‘protect our better,’ at any cost.

The meeting continued with messages from Mr. Vinod P (Trainer, Sulthan Bathery) and Ms. Smitha R R (Trainer, Kollam). Both were on the same page, stating that the industrialists are not following the SOPs. The emission norms for power plants, for instance, have been framed keeping the interest of the emitters in mind and not those who inhale the polluted air. Plastic wastes often end up in the water bodies, harming aquatic life and our life.

Ms. Niveditha announced the winners of the quiz competition and consolation prizes during the gathering. The winners are Mr. Muhammed Yasir K (Trainee, Sreekandapuram), Ms. Geethu M.S (Trainee, Kollam), and Jishnu MV (Trainee, Sreekandapuram), as first, second and third prizes respectively. And nine consolation prize-winners were also announced. While breaking the prize winner’s news, Ms. Niveditha also shared messages on the consequences of the environment and the steps to preserve it said, “Our planet is so stunningly beautiful; you can watch its beauty unfold for hours in moving. Let’s Love Nature not Like.”

 The program was concluded at 1:30 pm with a vote of thanks from Mr.Tinu Ruben (Trainer, Kollam)  followed by the singing of the National Anthem.
