Induction Program Held for Hospitality Trainees at Don Bosco Tech – Nitika, West Bengal

Induction sessions imbibe Value of soft skill and life skill to the life of the candidates of ITC-MSK Y-5 B-2. The comprehensive training was programmed from May 1 to 8, 2017 at Don Bosco Tech Nitika centre in West Bengal. Altogether 82 males and 10 female trainees participated in the interactive training session. Six days workshop was initiated to saturate candidates with values and attitudes; to the situational awareness and the ability to read a situation as it unfolds to decide upon a response that yields the best result. Ultimately, this one week has been motivating and prepares the trainees to improve teamwork, creativity, efficiency and productivity.

Mr. Goutam Maitra, Center Coordinator, Don Bosco Tech Nitika, stated that soft skills are a persons ability to interact effectively with co-workers and customers. Technical skills comprise the occupational requirement of a job and are mainly applicable at the workplace, while soft skills are broadly applicable both in and outside the workplace and complement the technical skills as well as many other activities outside the sphere of the workplace. He further added, in addition to the standard qualification, soft skills are increasingly being sought after by employers. There are professions where soft skills like etiquette, personal finance management, and communication, prove to be more important than core occupational skills in the long term as it allow for personal and professional growth in employees.

In the following days students were not glued to the classes to accumulate the domain knowledge rather they disciplined themselves setting an aim for life through different life skills and soft skills activities such as name game, longest chain, holding hand and fire on the mountain etc. through which candidates inherited lesson for life. Mr. Gautam Maitra expressed that these games are very handy to delve beneath the young mind to understand their excellencies and potency to release the monotony of life. The aspiring trainees also learned about goal setting, perception and values, time management, grooming, team building, money management, importance of communication, attitude and self-esteem and later had to enact in the form of skit or group presentation.

During the 6 daysinduction program, trainees responded very positively and expressed their eagerness to start their new chapter in their life after being provided a step-by-step approach to living with greater courage, balance, abundance and joy. Counseling and division of domain were also done during this period. Finally, the induction program concluded with a new zeal of life, excitement and new adventure for 92 trainees who look forward for their successful and bright career.
