Certificate Distribution Ceremony of Philips 100 Hours Training Program organized by Don Bosco Tech

Honorable guests and dignitaries present at the event were Dr. Shalini Sarin, Chair of the Board, The Philips Lighting, Ms. Prajna Khanna, Global Head of CSR, The Philips Lighting, Nitish Poonia, Sr. Manager, Philips Lighting Academy, Ms. Natasha Tandon, General Manager – Marketing, Communication and CSR, The Philips Lighting, Mr. Rishi Chawla, Head – Government Affairs and CSR, India, Fr. A. M. Joseph, Executive Director, Don Bosco Tech, and Fr. C.A. Joseph, Director – Don Bosco Technical Institute. 

Other personage who were present at the event were Mr. Deepak Singhania, HR Executive, Reliable First Adcon Private Ltd., Mr. Abhishek Verma, Sr. Manager – Operation, Mr. Arif Ahmed, Mr, Kunal Shaw and Mr. Amit Singh, Regional Coordinators, Mr. Alok, Asst. Manager – Placement, Mr. Ujjal Paramanik, Sr. Manager – Finance, Mr. Sushil Hansdak, Asst. Manager, Finance from Don Bosco Tech Society. Rakesh Arora, Centre Manager, Haridwar, Ipsha Pathak, Program Coordinator - Bihar, Trainers and approximate 120 trainees from Don Bosco Tech- Delhi, Haridwar, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh were also present.

Don Bosco Tech Society in collaboration with Philips Lighting endeavors to train unemployed and underprivileged youths of rural areas in the age group of 18-35 across India. The ceremony began with the welcome speech by Fr. C.A. Joseph followed by the lighting of lamp by all the guests and dignitaries accentuating on the successful implementation of the training program and endeavors.

Addressing the audience, Mr. Nitish Poonia spoke about the Skill Development Program, “Ujjawal Jeewan – Nayi Disha, Nayi Kiran initiated by Philips Lighting in collaboration with Don Bosco Tech, supporting the cause of “Electrician Empowerment Project”. He said, “The Philips Foundation was established in 2014 with the mission to make a difference in the communities and lives of those in need”. He further added that Don Bosco Tech is a prospective partner and is contented on having achieved the target of upgrading and changing the life of 1300 youth across India”.

Enlightening with the plans of Don Bosco Tech, Fr. A.M. Joseph said, “Don Bosco Tech since its inception till date has trained more than 3 lakh trainees in various market-oriented domain and placed more than 75 % of them in many known and renown placement partners and we aim to skill train 20 lakhs youth by 2022.”
The event witnessed the true and inspirational testimonies of two brave women, Purnima and Shweta – Assistant Electrician Trainees from Don Bosco Tech, Barh centre in Bihar, who against all odds and speculation came forward, with the help of their family members especially their husband, to admit themselves and undergo the training program in mainly male dominated domain. </p>

Putting in her own word, Purnima said, “I never thought that I would be standing here and share my life story until Don Bosco Tech happened to come in my life. It was not easy to come out from home, as a married woman, to join a training program due to social norms where women in villages help her husband or do the household work only. But after I convinced my husband and in-laws and with their support, I am not only able to come forward to take this training program but have gain confidence and look forward for our bright future”.

Appreciating the inspirational testimonies, Dr. Shalini Sarin lauded the two trainees for the courage the mustered to break all social barrier and norm and take the training program with the goal for better future not only for themselves but also of their family. She also pointed out some helpful points and shared suggestions that would help Don Bosco Tech to map the project in more systematically.

Ms. Prajna Khanna, who was visibly impressed and moved by the stories of trainees, asked them to join the stage to appreciate them and expressed that such story always motivate her to work more. She said, “Women or girls, especially in the rural places, are unable to come out from their house and they are the most vulnerable one. Efforts should be made to work toward empowering them with such skill training program and placement opportunity.

Talking about the need of smart cities in India, Mr. Rishi Chawla said, “India progressively will need smart cities for proper and overall development where every house need to be connected with advance electric wiring and cable for which we need a skilled manpower. Skills training, such as the one provided by Don Bosco Tech and Philips, will surely help to covers the gap and bring out the much-required skilled manpower that will be needed to build and developed India’s smart cities.

Trainees who completed their training were awarded with certificate, which was handed over by Dr. Shalini Shirin, Ms. Prajna Khanna and Fr. A.M. Joseph. More than 300 trainees of Don Bosco Tech were placed in different organization. One such organization, Reliable First Adcon Private Ltd., is one of our prospective trainee’s employers, whose offer letters were distributed during the event by Mr. Rishi Chawla. Guests and dignitaries were duly honored by Fr. A. M. Joseph by presenting a momento as a token of gratitude. The event was beautifully compered by Ms. Satabdi Shaw, Assistant Hr Manager and was supported by Mr. John Daniel and Ms. Jharna Gurung, Sr. Communications Executives from Don Bosco Tech Society.

Finally, the ceremony concluded with Mr. Abhishek Verma, thanking all the guests, dignitaries and staff for the enthusiasm and support to make the program as well as the event successful. In his thanking note, he also sincerely thanks Brother Cyriac and Brother Tom for all the necessary help in arranging the program as well as for the lunch and snacks to make the event successful. He also thanked the trainees for their patience and zeal to trained themselves and earn a place with the prominent employers.
