Showkat Ahmad Mir, son of Ghulam Hassan Mir from Waisa Kanwar, Handwara in Kupwara District in Jammu & Kashmir, is 25 years old born in a low class family. He is the eldest child among his 4 younger siblings. His family was financially dependent upon the meager amount that his father earn from the daily wages work. In 2007, Showkat successfully completed his 10th class with flying colour however he had to give up his studies due to financial crisis in the family. He wanted to support his father and family by getting a job but despite his efforts he couldn’t acquire a job due to lack of skills and experience.
 

Showkat was looking for a job and living in misery until he learned about the mobilization drive for 3rd batch at Magam, Handwara, where he came in to contact with the team of Don Bosco Tech (Handwara- Kupwara). He got the stimulus and his dreams rejuvenated in his heart and mind, while getting information about the skill training program. 
 

While he got himself registered for 3 batch and joined the induction program at Don Bosco Tech (Handwara - Kupwara) centre where he displayed his good character and zeal for good future. Therefore, Showkat chose Hospitality services, a domain trade for training and successfully completed his training with good grooming and behavioral attitude. After the successfully completion of the training, he appeared for an interview for steward at Barbeque Nation, Pune where he got selected and joined on 5th of March 2013 for a salary of Rs. 5000. Showkat grabbed this opportunity and started his career and now today almost after two years later he is still associated with Barbeque Nations in its Mumbai Branch and has been promoted 3 steps higher while currently drawing a salary of above Rs. 19000 per month.  He took his brother to Mumbai who is also working in Barbeque Nations. Showkat was all thankful to Don Bosco Tech for giving him the opportunity and the job as now he feels he has a secure future with the experience that he has gained, Showkat’s parents are also thankful to Don Bosco Tech for making the career of their son and thus providing a much needed helping hand to the family.
