“It was a wonderful learning experience and I would like to thank Don Bosco Tech Society and my trainers who helped me to reach this opportunity. I am very happy and proud to help my family. Being independent is such a wonderful and proud feeling. I am really comfortable with my job. Helping patients to recover brings peace to me,” says Komal Kumari.

This young and ambitious girl, working as GDA (General duty Assistant), hails from a remote village of Bishnah, of district Reasi of Jammu & Kashmir. Belonging to a poor family which consists of five members, her father a sole breadwinner works as a laborer. “There is no need to define how difficult it was for her father to run a family of five members with proper facilities with such a minimum income needed for substance,” Said Komal. After completion of her 12th class, she craved further studies, but due to some family problems and financial issues, she couldn't do so.

She decided to do something of her own so that not only she can help her family but also be self-dependant. One day she came to know about Don Bosco tech Society and its tremendous work skilling underprivileged youths like her with job opportunities. The training is also supported by DDU-GKY. She came to know about this opportunity in Bari Brahamna from a person who visited her village for a gathering, as a result, she got informed about the GDA course which is basically a patient-oriented course. She went to the Training Centre of Don Bosco Tech Society and was well acquainted with the details of the course and was assured a placement (Job) after the completion of the course.

"The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing."

So she joined the course of 6 months duration where she learnt a lot of things about patient care with the best of theory sessions supported with practical’s. After six months when the training was over she was offered various jobs out of which she got to join at a Narayana hospital in Reasi District.  Her starting salary was INR 10,000 and she worked for 1 year six months and currently she is working in home care.

Her family is very happy and proud of her achievement.
