Joyshna Xess, a 19-year-old from Buchahanda village in Sundargarh district, Odisha, comes from a modest family. Her father is a farmer, and her mother, a housewife, always encouraged her to pursue education and a career despite financial challenges. However, Joyshna had to halt her studies and remained idle at home due to her family's financial constraints.
Her turning point came when she learned about the DB Tech Skill and Employment-Based Training Program at Don Bosco Tech Kuarmunda, in partnership with RHI Magnesita. The program specifically caters to school and college dropouts, offering them a chance to upskill and secure employment. Motivated by her mother and eager to change her circumstances, Joyshna enrolled in the 90-day training program, selecting the Food & Beverage Service Associate job role.
The training equipped her with essential skills such as money and time management, decision-making, goal setting, basic computer literacy, and job-specific expertise. It also significantly improved her communication skills, confidence, and professionalism, preparing her for industrial exposure.
Joyshna shared, “I have learned a lot from the 90-day training program. It provided me an opportunity to grow, groom myself, and gain confidence.”
Upon completing the program, she secured employment at Ashmita Holidays Private Limited in Talcher as a Room Service Attendant cum Steward, earning ?8,000 per month, along with food and accommodation. Despite her non-professional background, her passion and determination enabled her to start a career in the hotel industry.
Her journey has inspired many unemployed youths from her village to consider training at DB Tech, Kuarmunda. Speaking about Joyshna’s performance, Ms. Sasmita Behera, HR Manager of Ashmita Holidays, remarked, “She is hardworking, and her confidence is truly commendable.”
Joyshna credits Don Bosco Tech Society and her trainers for believing in her and instilling self-confidence. Her success story stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration for rural youth, proving that with the right support and determination, any challenge can be overcome.
