A 22-year-old, Hamarbamut Hoojon, hails from a village named Lawrynjam in West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. He did his schooling up to class 8 and had to drop out of school. The problem crept into the family with the demise of his father who passed away when he was very young. The mother stood as the pillar of the house who was the sole earner of the family, could not earn enough and the family’s income was hand to mouth. After leaving school, he started working in a coal mine for petty wages. As his family size is big, it became all the more difficult for him to meet their needs. Gradually, things became worse from bad, it was like hoping against hope, until one fine day he met the mobilizer from Don Bosco Tech.

He came to know about Don Bosco Tech’s program offered at the Don Bosco Tech, Mawjrong center through the mobilization process. He was amazed to see several free, short term courses designed to train and place to the youth like him. Before things could slip out of hand he enrolled himself for the training in the unarmed Security Guard (USG) domain after going through the process of rigorous counseling and Interest Inventory. As he had good height and a well-built physique, and also because of his hard work and determination, he was considered as one of the brilliant among the trainees. He was good at sports too.

Finally, after two months of intensive training, he came out with flying colors. He even received a medal for ‘Discipline Trainee of the Batch’. During the training, he came to know that Armed Security Guards (ASG) were paid far better than the Unarmed Security Guards (USG). Therefore, soon after the training he applied for it and finally acquired a gun and also the license for the same. With the help of the trainers, he got placed as an Unarmed Security Guard in the State Bank of India, Bhoirymbong, Ri-Bhoi District under the wings of Orion Security Agency (OSA) based in Guwahati. At present he draws a monthly income of Rs.15,000/- along with free accommodation and food. He is very satisfied. He keeps calling his trainers to thank them. He says, “Had I not joined Don Bosco Tech for the training, I would still be a colliery and sleeping with a stomach, half-fed.”
