It is said well that the future of a nation is dependent on its youth. The state of Jammu and Kashmir has been through worst time from last few decades facing lots of violence.  This part of India has been hit by militancy at its worst. The major problem the youth of the sate are facing is unemployment, what is even problematic is they could not relocate which results in the backdrop of economy and financial crunch.

But a sigh of relief and healing touch was realized when the Government of India formally launched a skill development cum placement oriented programme named as HIMAYAT to help the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.

Here, we are highlighting the story of a person who belongs to the family of 8 members and living a miserable life. We are talking about Sajad Ahmad Ganie, a boy who hails from one of the far off place located in the district of Baramulla known as Rohama. People of this area generally earn their livelihood through farming, labour work and handicrafts. It was in November 2011 that Sajad came to know about Don Bosco Tech (Baramulla) offering Himayat training program, which is supported by the Ministry of Rural Development, Govt of India through the mobilization activities undertaken the Don Bosco Tech team stationed at Baramulla.  He was told that under this program, three month training will be provided and at the completion of it, the students will be placed in the entry level job market. According to one of the staff member, being interested to go for respectable job in private sector to earn his own livelihood, Sajad displayed a lot of interest in the programme. We met Sajad’s father (Gh Mohd Ganie) and explained him the complete details of the program, to which he spoke out with wet eyes that, “this is for the first time someone has offered such kind of help and favor to us, it is like a dream come true.”

Sajad was given admission to the batch 1 of the Hospitality domain; all through the training programme, he used to be one of the serious and regular students and was always eager to learn. After 3 Months and successful completion of his training, an interview was arranged for him at the Hotel, Pinespring located in Srinagar. Lucky enough, he cleared the interview and got the job at a monthly salary of Rs. 6000. Being happy at getting employed he shared, “this training has served as the big opportunity for me to change my life, I am thankful to MoRD and Don Bosco Tech for changing my life.”
