Mr. Avnish belongs to a remote village called Sarai, Haridwar district of Uttarakhand. His father, a daily wage earner, and mother, a housewife, found it hard even to provide necessities of life to a seven-member family. Anyone, living in low lying areas are susceptible to seasonal flood. Likewise, Avnish’s family struggles to get through this, each year. Though poor, he studied up to class 10 before he could drop out of school to work and help the family. But he was without a proper and well-paid job until he passed out of Don Bosco Tech’s skill training program which sharpened his skills and training in Life Skills helped him overcome himself.

He came to know about the Don Bosco Tech Society’s free skill training program at Haridwar center through the mobilizer during the mobilization process. Since he was on the lookout for opportunities from where he can lay a strong foundation for his life, he would not let this chance go to waste. The very next day he rushed to the center to get detailed information about the training and placement. During the face-to-face interaction with the counselor, he got the overall picture of what Don Bosco Tech is all about, and its mission and vision. There and then, he enrolled his name & started to attend classes in the chosen domain, Assistant Electrician. Though he was a bit shy, was a quick learner. The classes in Life Skills, Computer, and Spoken English gave a boost to his life besides practical and theoretical knowledge in the domain. “He used to spend a lot of time, even alone, in practical, in the electrical lab. That’s the kind of dedication I have seen in Avnish. This nature of hard work and dedication will go a long way,” said Mr. Shiv Shankar (Trainer, Asst. Electrician).

By the end of the three-month training, Avnish was well equipped with the knowledge to take up a job in the market. When the opportunity came from the Hero Moto Corp as a Machine Operator, Subash Nagar, Jwalapur in Haridwar he sat for the interview. The interviewer was well impressed with the knowledge that he possessed. If the interviewer does not select such potential candidates, then who? So, this is how he got his first job and joined from November 1, 2019, which is less than a year, with a basic salary of Rs. 10,000/- per month with incentives. He is happy, as he continues to work there.

The family’s financial condition has improved. He is educating his brothers besides helping his parents meet the daily expenses.

“Whatever I am today, it’s because and only because of Don Bosco Tech Society,” said Avnish. He added, “Those less fortunate, like me, please join the Don Bosco Tech’s free skill training program. And you will see, life’s changed,” says Avnish.
