Employees Gathering Cum Job Fair

Employment is the main focus for any country/society/college, particularly skill sector institutes. Because only giving the best education or training to the students is not enough. The system has to provide a platform for the students to implement & explore their skills in the professional fields.

Don Bosco Tech Society with the help of its funding partner ITC organized a “Job Fair” on 15th March 2022 at Don Bosco Tech Nitika, Kolkata. The idea of the institution is beyond giving the education to students to qualify their academics with flying colours. The Don Bosco Tech team took additional responsibility to support them in making the right start to their career. In the desire to help them in this aspect, Don Bosco Tech organized this event.

More than 180 students from Don Bosco Tech Kuntighat & Don Bosco Tech Nitika participated in this Job Fair with their trainers. There were different employers from the Hospitality sector. Don Bosco Tech cordially welcomed over 25 employers from flourishing organizations that offer full-time jobs. These employers discussed the career options within their organizations with the candidates. The team had good support from the HRs from well-known organizations like Barbeque Nation, Absolute Barbeque, Iksha Hospitality, Zink Hospitality, Peerless Inn, Taco Bell Company, Sadvik Restaurant, Bouvice Hotel / Hotel Elite, Ambuja Neutia, The Stadel Hotel, Hotel Option & Lawn, ITC Royal Bengal, Golden Tulip Hotel, Apna Pizza, Assorted Cuisine Pvt. Ltd and Ya Burger. These Companies were invited to be present at the venue from 11 AM and they were given a particular area in the Centre's main Hall to conduct interviews. A list of companies and its requirement was displayed at the entrance so that the students remain aware of the different Hotels which were taking part.

The program started at 12.00 pm with the invoking of God’s blessings by garlanding the portrait of St.John Bosco and lighting the lamp, followed by a group song, a group act and a group dance. All the guests were welcomed by Miss Estrela Osta (Host)and gifts were given to all the guests as a token of love and appreciation. Fr. Robin Gomes (Rector & Center in charge of Don Bosco Nitika) and Fr. Jose Podimattam (Technical Commission Head of Kolkata Province) addressed the guests and further stated that Don Bosco Tech is an example of synchronous social action of various stakeholders, which aims at mainstreaming and ensuring economic security to youth who could be victimized by poverty. To enable them to gain a foothold in the competitive job market, Don Bosco Tech helps the youth to acquire the required livelihood and soft skills in an environment of learning and mentoring that is responsive to the individual’s emotional and developmental needs. Mr Rahul Raj (ITC Program Executive) also spoke about the different investments contributed by ITC for increasing youth’s career aspect.

The recruitment process for the students was plain and simple. They had to go through a personal round of interviews with each student getting around three to four chances to sit for the interview with different employers. Most of the candidates turned up happy with the kind of jobs that were offered to them. The employers were also very happy and satisfied with this event and were glad that they attended it. The participants were made aware of the types of job that is available in the market and the kind of opportunities that is there.
