A resident of Deoli (Bishnah, Jammu), Romesh has been through many struggles in his life. The bitter reality of his life is that his parents died while he was still a child. Though, he has three brothers but both the younger brothers stay separately after getting married. He lives with his elder brother, who is a vegetable vendor and whose meager income is insufficient to meet the household needs of the family. Somehow he managed to complete his 12th standard but could not continue further owing to the deprived financial background. He used to live with his brother and was completely dependent on him. One day he decided to do something to help his brother instead of sitting ideal at home. Unable to find any good option, he started selling vegetables along with his elder brother. Sometimes he used curse himself for what he was going through because.  The fact that some of his friends are either studying or working well leaves him depressed.

The DB Tech’s Himayat centre funded by MoRD was like God’s gift for Romesh. During mobilization campaign in his village, the DB Tech trainers told him about the Himayat project implemented by DB Tech at Bishnah. The trainers put him through an ‘Interest Inventory’ check, based on which he was counselled to take up the Hospitality course. During the counselling he was told about the plethora of opportunities available in the Hospitality sector. Expressing his gratitude, he said “I am grateful to DB Tech and the trainers, who have given me an opportunity to study again. Having no idea about Hospitality, the course was an eye opener for me. It helped me learn several great things about the service sector, customer dealing, communication skills and etiquette”. During the induction program, he was reserved and shy but after few days, a positive change in his attitude was visible. He used to be very active and energetic participant in all the activities held during three months of training programme”.

As soon as he finished the three-month course, he obtained a job offer from Pizza Hut (Ludhiana) at a monthly income of Rs 5000. Amit Bhat (Centre Coordinator, DB Tech, Bishnah) shared with us, “I am glad that he has been placed with a brand like Pizza Hut that offers great opportunities, dynamic work culture and a great career. HR personnel at Pizaa Hut, Prakhar Srivastava praised him saying, “Romesh works with remarkable dedication. His working attitude shows that he has got a bright future ahead”.

Sharing his journey towards economic independence, he says “DB Tech has changed my life; it has made my future safe. I can now improve the economic condition of my family. My trainers are my mentors; and I really appreciate their effort that has helped me get an opportunity to work with a big brand. I appreciate the program being launched by the DB Tech for up-lifting our society; DB Tech has come as a ray of hope for economically and socially backward students who could not continue their study due to insufficient money”.
