“It’s Never TOO LATE to LEARN a NEW SKILL”

Ms. Sitaris Pariong is currently working at PARAS Hospital HMRI, Patna with a monthly salary of Rs. 9600/-. She joined the organization on October 20, 2019, in the position of Nursing Assistant and is still working with this organization.

MS. Sitaris Pariong was born on July 8, 1999, and was brought up in an outskirt village in Mawsep, South-West Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya. She is the second daughter out of four of Mr. Diengseibor Sanglein and Mrs. Korina Pariong. Despite all odds, she managed to complete her 10th grade from a nearby school in her village. Thereafter, she went on to pursue her 12th. But she had to earn to support the family financially while still in college. Thus, she consumed much of her study time at work. This was the sole reason as to why she was detained from college in the year 2019. Therefore, she decided to quit further studies and started looking out for some suitable job opportunities that could support herself as her financial stringent family.

As her search for jobs began, she came to know about Don Bosco Tech Society’s free skill training program with job placement from her friends who were also interested in joining such a nature of training program. In her search, she visited Don Bosco Tech, Nongstoin center with her mother to get more information about the free training program. After thorough counseling by one of the trainers, she joined in to pursue training in General Duty Assistant at this center for training.

Ms. Sitaris joined Don Bosco Tech, Nongstoin Centre on March 29, 2019. “While on training she showed keen interest in learning and was very dedicated to her studies,” said Sr Mary Pasi (Trainer, GDA). She added, “Though Sitaris struggled, as the training and course curriculum was entirely new to her, she never gave up. Instead worked hard and put in extra effort in learning.” Her determination and enthusiasm were commendable to boost her complete successfully this three-month-training in General Duty Assistant. “Ms. Sitaris was a very jolly,” recalls her friends (Eldamora Rynpathiang ) added, “And was a cheerful person.” She had done her schooling in a Khasi Medium. This was a barrier, everyone faces, to speak fluently in English. But that did not pose a threat from grasping and learning the language as she was a quick learner. Hats off to Ms. Sitaris for her sheer dedication and willingness to learn which helped her to overcome all these hurdles. The best quality, one can remember, in Sitaris was that she never gave up or shy away from making mistakes, even when the entire class laughed. After completing her training on June 26, 2019, she was placed at PARAS Hospital HMRI, Patna where she is currently working with a monthly salary of Rs. 9,600/-.

“I am thankful to Don Bosco Tech Society, the MSSDS and my trainers who mentored me, sharpened my communication skills with a friendly attitude has shaped me to be who I am today. Before I joined this training program, I did not know what to do with my life. Fortunately, Don Bosco Tech Society’s free skill training came as a ray of hope for me. The training was good and the job is satisfying. I am glad I agreed to move out of my hometown as the possibilities here in Meghalaya are limited. The salary is good for a beginner. And I am happy working alongside my friends,” said Sitaris Pariong.
