Shaista Hamid belongs to the family who lives in Baramulla (J&K) and has eight members in her family. As the head of the family, His father Mr A. B. Hamid took the responsibility of all family, who works as a daily wage labourer. Being grown up, she understands her responsibility and thus wants to do something to provide a better living to the family. But all her attempt fails for a number of reasons.

One such day, when she was trying to look for some source of income for the family, she came across one of the staff member of DB Tech (Baramulla), who was indulged in the mobilization activities in the village. It was then that she came to know about Himayat training programme being offered by DB Tech in partnership with MoRD. Knowing that the program offers free of cost three month training along with the placement at the successful completion of the training, her happiness knew no bound. She was much convinced to join the programme right away. Next day, she visited DB Tech (Baramulla) and gave the interest inventory and was admitted to the batch 2. She started up with the training quite seriously, she used to be punctual not only for the class but also at completing assignments on time. She completed her training with good score.

After the training, now it was the turn of placement, Don Bosco Tech arranged for an interview for her at the Nokia Care Centre placed locally in the Baramulla. As per everyone’s expectations she cleared up the interview and got the job at Rs. 5500 per month. On getting the job she stated happily, “I am really happy today, if I would not have undertaken this training, I would be of no use for my family, I would have been sitting idle at home. I thank Don Bosco Tech for giving me the real life.” Her parents were even happier, her father alleged, “this is the happiest day of my life ever, I am proud of my daughter. The credit for all this goes to MoRD that has launched such programme for the poor and marginalized youth of Jammu & Kashmir.
