Rathan, a young boy of 22 year hails from a small village called R. H. colony No. 4 which is located in Sindhanur, Raichur District Karnataka. He had completed his SSLC, but poverty & their economical status became obstacle for his bright future. The family he belongs to is very poor, the annual income of the family is just Rs. 8000/-. The family gets complete with his father Sudeb Dey who is a fisherman, his mother Bimala Deyi who is a daily wager, one younger sister and one younger brother studying in 10th and 8th standard respectively. The entire family was dependent on the head of the family i.e. his father. But it was really difficult for his father to manage the complete family with his minute income. Eventually, Rathan had to work with his father helping him in fishing.

Unexpectedly, one day his friend told him about the BASE programme being run by DB Tech in partnership with MoRD. Under this programme, 3 month domain specific skill training is provided to the poor youth. Swayed over with it, the very next day he visited the centre to enquire about the formalities required to join the programme.  He explained all the details to his parents and joined BASE on 15th of June, 2011 after taking permission from them. The Interest Inventory test he gave decided that he will join the Bedside Nursing Domain.

During the time of training, he was very curious to learn new things and also showed lot of interest in both theory as well as practical. He performed excellently in each part of the training and activities. He was an obedient, sincere and respectful student.

Within a short period of time after completing his training, he got placement as a pharmacist in Apollo Pharmacy which is located in Bangalore at a monthly income of Rs 5,800/-. The best part is he gives his entire income to his parents, keeping Rs. 1500/- for his food and accommodation. For what he is today, Rathan exclaims, “In the beginning I thought that this training would not be of any help to me. But after three months of training, I realized that this training served as the life changing opportunity for me, this training has made it possible for me to achieve what I have today”.

His parents are indeed happy that his son is able to earn money independently. His father says, “I am proud of my son, he understands his responsibility; he is so truthful to the family that he has even given us his ATM Pin number”.
