“Sometimes, you have to take a leap of Faith”

Monalisa Basumatry is from Nongpoh Ri Bhoi, Meghalaya, and her parents are (Late) Mr. Binoi Basumatry and Mrs. Mamuni Basumatry. When she was 5 years old, her father left them, and her mother was the sole provider of the family. Left with a meager income, the household supplies were very less and life was difficult compared to other families. Amidst such struggle, Monalisa learned from a very young age to help her mother with small chores.

It took a lot of sacrifices, but somehow Monalisa studied till 12th standard, but sadly did not pass. Her mother decided that she could not spend money on the same class and Monalisa had to drop out of school. Then Monalisa started searching for jobs here and there till she got a job in a small shop in her own locality. After less than a month of working there, she heard from her friends about DB Tech Society’s free training courses and decided to join. She visited DB Tech Shillong Centre to get further information regarding the free training program in F&B and was enrolled under Skill Meghalaya F&B Service Associate Batch-1 in the Shillong Centre. Even though the training center was far from her residence, she managed well with the support and encouragement of her family, until she got an accommodation near the training centre.

During the training program, she started to get a better understanding of the course and started to gain interest each day. She was a confident, friendly, and free-spirited young girl with the most beautiful smile. Her easy and outgoing nature and positive attitude toward life were some of her best qualities.

After completing her training program, she thought that it would take years to find a good job for herself, but with the help of DB Tech, she just had to sit for an interview and was selected to work with one of the best hotels in the country. Monalisa is currently working at JW Marriott Hotel Sahar, Mumbai with a salary of Rs 15,000. She is very happy and satisfied with her job, for she had realized that only a few fortunate people get the opportunity to work in such an organization. Therefore, she is making the best use of her time there and is learning and growing each day with every new experience.

Monalisa says, “I would like to thank my trainers for their love, guidance, and support throughout the training program. Their valuable teachings and guidance are some things that I will always carry with me wherever I go. I am forever grateful to the Don Bosco Tech Society and everyone involved in this training program for helping me secure a job in a world-class hotel in such a short period. I now feel that my future is secured and that my life and career are now moving on the right track”.
