Like hundreds of youth across Jammu and Kashmir, for Javid securing a government job was a guarantee for bright future. Getting a job wouldn’t have been easily possible, had he not joined the skill programme under Himayat scheme that helped him realize the true worth of his skills and hard work.

 

Javid comes from a humble background. His family manages the daily chores through earning of the Javid’s father as a shawl weaver which was enough to meet the both ends. “I was desperate for a govt job.  There were days when Abba (Father in Kashmiri language) would ask for money from our relatives and neighbors to feed our family. All the dreams and hopes of the family were ending with every passing day as the single source of meager income was not able to even fulfil the daily nutritional needs of the family. I was literally frustrated,” says Javid, who is in his mid twenties.

 

Javid applied for many jobs in the government sector but all in vain. “Once I qualified written exam, but I was not selected in the interviews. After facing rejection many times, I felt disillusioned; it seemed the end of the world. Now I had very little to choose from; desperate enough, I finally took up odd jobs- working as a laborer from cutting wood to packing apples in boxes at his native village in Shutloo district of Kashmir”  he added. Apart from being disillusioned regarding his own future, Javid would always feel worried about the future of his two sisters. “How to get suitable matches for them. In a village like ours, marrying off daughters and sisters is a big challenge, keeping in view all the customs and traditions of marriages in Kashmir.

 

Every cloud has a silver lining; it turned out true for Javid as well. He enrolled himself in three month skill development training in Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) course at Himayat in Don Bosco Tech – Himayat (Rohama) centre. His decision of undergoing Skill development course at Himayat proved to be a huge success. 

 

After the completion of the course, he was selected in G.C.M Sopore, a marketing based company in Kashmir. “They were paying me Rs. 4600 per month with which I was contented with my life. I used to save and send Rs. 3000 to my family back home every month. My family is much happier now, which in turn made me happy. My Father doesn’t need to ask for money from his neighbors and relatives. I am very thankful to almighty for this success; I also thank Don Bosco Tech team for my success”.

 

Like they say “Sky is not the Limit”, Javid didn’t stop at this, soon after he realized that there were better opportunities lying in front of him, he switched his job and now he is working at “Universal Printing Press” Baramulla, where he is now earning handsome amount of Rs 5500 per month and could financially support his family in a better way.
 

Javid believes the training changed his life forever. Apart from imparting professional skills, it enhanced his confidence and equipped him to take up any challenge in life. “I dream of growth at my current workplace and I love my work. Now I feel confident to go and work anywhere in India and across globe,” he added with a smile of contentment.
